I don’t think the MX-5 Miata is really that great.
Sure, it’s a small, light, FR sports car, but that’s really all it’s got going for it. They’re not even that cheap, maybe compared to other roadsters of the size, like the S2K, but really for the price I’d rather have something like a Celica or a Prelude. Even if they’re FWD.
Really, I’m not a big fan of piston Mazdas in general, with three exceptions.
And, I will admit that the current 6 looks really good, but I still think the Optima and even the new Accord and Camry look better.
Come at me.

I drove a ‘93 Prelude. Then I drove my ‘91 Miata. No contest.

The MX-6 is a legitimately fantastic piece of design, reminds me a lot of the S14, in the best way possible.

Is this a safe place for confessions? I don’t like Skoda’s styling. I think it’s kind of beige and dull. :/

I kinda agree but also don’t. It’s kinda supposed to be subdued and a bit dull. To me they just look like slightly better than VWs, but still not the greatest.

Notice how I said Mazda, and not Autozam.
Still would rather have a Beat tho. Those seats make me swoon.

I do quite like the Barchetta. And you can import them here, and I think they’re pretty cheap too.
If only I had money.

You’re allowed to like a dislike what you choose. No one is forcing you.
But, you can see yourself out the door now...
lol. I’m a Mazda humper, but not everyone is, and thats ok. That being said, from a design stand point only, the Optima, Accord and Camry come no where near the 6. All three of those cars have design problems.
Have you driven an MX5? Or are you only speculating? An MX5 equipped with a torsen LSD is the enthusiast’s option, not so much the standard base models.

I spent $3500 on my 1.8 NA Miata. That’s not cheap?

Never driven one, but for my situation it just doesn’t really appeal. Not even necessarily from the driving standpoint, but with stuff like practicality. I don’t want to necessarily live with a softtop in Northern Canadian winters, and it only has 2 seats. And the trunk isn’t great either.
The 6 is a good looking car though, liking the other cars better is just a personal thing with me.

‘Tis cheap, problem is, in my city at least, most Miatas are nearing dangerously close to the $5k mark last time I checked. At that point there’s a lot better options for fun sports cars, and more practical ones at that.

I like them but they’ve become unobtanium in NJ. I can get “more” car for the value to speak. Plus I prefer steel hardtops and need 4 seats.

I'm with you. I've driven a couple and I just couldn't get into it. It has zero use to me in my current life situation.

I’d only spend 5K on a Miata if it was turbo’ed. That’s nuts. But it’s hard to find a RWD car with a factory LSD for $3500, even if it is a bit of a rust bucket.
I thought about going E30, but parts cost more and it was tough to find one for sale at $3500 that wasn’t a complete disaster. There really weren’t any other RWD cars that I could find at that price point, unless it was an old Dodge Duster or something, and old American cars always have baggage.
Granted, this was 4 years ago. Miata hype has blown up these past 4 years and they have become far more popular than I would have imagined.

I will reserve my opinion until I drive or own one. But I’m a sucker for beaters as daily drivers. I won’t have anything nice.
We own 5/6 FF so I'm with you on the FWD, but again I've never had a proper FR car.

I’m not a big Miata fan either, but there’s something about a Mariner Blue NA like the one you posted that I just really like. Otherwise I mostly agree with you. Except about the 6. Back to back test drive with the same year 6 and Accord ruined the Accord for me forever, and that’s even before Honda ruined it with the mid-model refresh.

As it is, I cannot.
